I could really go for a burger today ... one of my favorites is the Llano Poblano (jack cheese, bacon, roasted peppers) from !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . What is your ultimate burger?

They just opened one of these across the street from the office. Gonna have to go there some time methinks

All of them. I don't have a favorite because they're all good.

Best burger I've ever had was at a small place in Oslo, Norway called Illegal Burger.
I had the bluecheesebacon one.. I did not take a picture of it, but I found a picture online..

maybe it's nostalgia and because I only get it once a year when I go home but
Double Double for the win

I love burgers. Most recently I had this:
that is 1 lb of beef, shaped more like a sausage. Lettuce Tomato onion, cheddar cheese and sweet pepper spread underneath.
those are about 1.25 of beef stuff with jalapenos, pepper jack and onions with some sort of bbq glaze. charcoal is the best way to cook a cow.
I also made a Lamb burger. I made my own caramelized onions and a mayo/garlic sauce. very french, much tasty sumthin sumthin.

Keep in mind I live on the east coast so I don't get all the awesome west coast joints.
For fast food, it's got to be Wendy's for me. I could live off the Junior Bacon Cheeseburger.
Although sometimes I feel like a fake burger, and nothing beats a McDonal's Double Cheeseburger.
For Fast-Casual, probably Five Guys.
For sit down.... I dunno. Nothing really jumps out at me.

Looks delicious!

We actually have In-N-Out in Austin, TX now, but it feels so wrong. I only eat it when I am in LA :)

My favorite burger is my own creation:
80/20 grass fed beef
buttered brioche bun
Sriracha mayo
Arugula
Avocado
Meunster cheese
Grilled onions
Home made pickles

It was, I guess it would've been better with some hot peppers or something, but hey.. I'll ask for that next time :)
![]() 02/06/2015 at 12:01 |

Try it out! I don't go very often because the line is long and it is hard to wait with kids.

I think I need to visit Texas sometime just for the food and beer.

We almost went for dinner the other night but The Thirsty Lion is right next door too and it's hard to pass up their beer cheese soup

Drool....avocado makes pretty much everything better.

Wow, I'm not sure I could finish one of those. Add a little bacon and maybe I could find a way ;)

Anything from here: http://ajbombers.com/ They were on Food Wars and won.
I've had a couple different ones. My favorite is the one with bacon, cheese and peanut butter. Yes, you read that right.

When I cook at home, I like to grill jalapenos, and butterfly them so they are just right size for the burger.

Sounds delicious, I must try that sometime.

Our beer scene is definitely picking up. Are you in Louisiana?
![]() 02/06/2015 at 12:15 |

nah. Wisconsin. Grew up in SoCal. I'm just half cajun. I have a bunch of family there still.
Half Cajun, half Ashkenazi. Talk about a weird combo.

Peanut butter? I am having a little trouble imagining that - I'm thinking is it like a Thai peanut sauce? Or is it mixed in with the beef?

mines usually gone by the time my buddy has sat down.
![]() 02/06/2015 at 12:20 |

Nope, it's just normal peanut butter. Not mixed, just spread on the burger like ketchup. You can sorta see it there under the burger on the bun.

I am 0% Cajun and 8% Ashkenazi

Cant argue with that. Some times fast food burgers are way better than sit down burgers.

I think I'm a convert in the best-burger-in-Austin war: 2nd St bar. They'll even do it tartar if you ask. Gruyere cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a side of truffle fries.
Your Mom's was a favorite of mine until they moved from Cesar Chavez to Airport, I haven't been back, but I hear they went downhill fast.
And, oddly enough, I think Spec's might be right up there with 2nd St. It's about half the price, and pretty much as good, plus they have great onion rings to go with it, and lots of good hot/pepper sauces.
![]() 02/06/2015 at 12:37 |
|
I haven't had any of those. Will try. I didn't know Specs did burgers - I've only been to their smaller outposts I guess.
![]() 02/06/2015 at 12:38 |

I've been to In-N-Out over on Airport twice and was completely underwhelmed each time. Am I doing something wrong?

Bring plenty of napkins.

My favorite burger here in Madison, not made by me, is the Graze burger.
It's a patty made from fresh ground bacon, sirloin, ribeye & short ribs, topped with caramelized onions, Worcestershire-cabernet jus, Swiss Emmental compound butter, on a SarVecchio cheese & sesame brioche bun. It's a 21 friggin dollar burger, and it's worth it.
Best only-somewhat-overpriced burger...ehh too many to choose.
Favorite cheap bar burger: The Village Green , in Middleton.
I like mine a double cheeseburger with grilled onions, pickles, ketchup and mustard.
Favorite fast food burger: Culver's
I get a double butter burger with the works (red onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard).

Moonie's Burger House in suburban Austin. A little pricey, but worth it.

No I don't think so. We have so many other options here. In-N-Out is good compared to McD's, but is it really that awesome compared to Whataburger, Freddies, Sonic, P Terrys, etc...? I don't think so, and that is before going gourmet. However I do like to nostalgically eat one when I am in SoCal just like CG.

The Spec's off 290 at Brodie has a great food court. Lots of really good (and inexpensive!) sandwiches and sides. I was surprised by it, too.
![]() 02/06/2015 at 12:48 |

I like Moonies except for two things - the buns are a little heavy, and it is usually manned entirely by teenagers so speed/quality is a little spotty.
![]() 02/06/2015 at 12:49 |
|
I like the buns. And I haven't had any quality issues, and I've been to the one on 1825 and the one at 183/Anderson Mill. Maybe just timing?
![]() 02/06/2015 at 12:51 |

I've not been that impressed with P. Terry's either, and given a choice, I'd vote for Whataburger. I will not eat at McD's.
![]() 02/06/2015 at 12:51 |

Holy cow... literally. I'm not sure the first one counts as still being a burger though!

Oh, and the best hangover burger of all time: Hill's on S Congress.
![]() 02/06/2015 at 12:58 |

They are usually very good. Maybe it was just a few crowded post-soccer / post-church weekends where they were really busy
![]() 02/06/2015 at 13:13 |

It's a ground mostly-beef patty on a bun. What else would it be, if not a burger?
![]() 02/06/2015 at 13:15 |

I'm extremely cheap so I don't buy any fancy burgers. Wendy's baconator is my go to sammich.
![]() 02/06/2015 at 13:43 |
|
Oops I missed the part where it is ground. Do you eat with knife and fork?
![]() 02/06/2015 at 13:57 |
|
I'm of two minds about the eating strategy.
On the one hand, you can pick it up, you just would need a lot of napkins. Though it's a $21 burger in a somewhat fancy place, that somewhat fancy place is really a somewhat fancy bar, and hey if you're in a bar I see nothing wrong with picking up a sloppy burger with your hands and getting it all over yourself.
On the other hand, it's pretty damn messy.

The best burger I ever had was in Austin, TX during SXSW in 2011 I think.
Served out of a broken looking old school bus in a vacant lot on the east(?) side of 6th st.
Was literally just a burger on a bun but it was amazing in flavor.

If you are out partying with friends on a beautiful evening and really hungry, the food trucks can have the most amazing food you have ever tasted. Then you take your family/coworkers there during daytime a few weeks later, and realize it is sort of meh... Context makes a big difference!

They don't make the biggest burger ever, or the fanciest or most expensive, but they're perfect . My #1 favorite, in St. Petersburg FL:

So they are the Miata of burgers?

Brasserie V makes a pretty stellar burger as well. I believe they had one that was stuffed with short ribs, and a spicy relish/jam when I was there last. It's sooo good. And their beer selection is out of this world.

CAN YOU GET A GOURMET BURGER WITH POUTINE ON IT?!
![]() 02/08/2015 at 20:56 |
|
They do, they're one of several burgers I like in the "only somewhat overpriced" category.
I worked in the kitchen there for 6 months while taking a break from being a corporate America type. We individually weighed every single burger to 5.73 ounces and hand-pattied them. Man, I pattied up a lot of burgers there.
Sounds like what you had was a special, or one of the sliders on slider night (Tuesday).

From what I understand it was a standard menu item for a time, but the last time I looked at their menu, they had revamped it a bit and taken it off. It was a shame.
I do feel you on the Culver's choice though. I had to grab some the other day for a little taste of home.

I'd like to introduce you Jukebox Burger in Montreal's Poutine Burger.

Oh man oh man oh man. How'd I miss this?
Hopdoddy's Ghostland Burgertory is one of my favorite burgers of all time. That sucker caused pain. Delicious pain.
Favorite of all time was probably whatever spicy burger I had at Casino El Camino. Hooooooly crap. Amazing. Done just right, too (pink in the middle!).

Ooh that sounds gooood. Hopefully it can be enjoyed sans cape ( unlike Ghostland Observatory)
